Baubles: Cathy Waterman Ring

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

Oof. I just experienced an intense case of sticker shock.Cathy Waterman ring

I saw this beautiful ring on Pinterest (where else) and after some creative googling, discovered that it’s a mere $13,240 (of course it is).

It’s like every time I go into TJ Maxx and make a beeline for inevitably the most expensive handbag there.

(I guess at least I know I have good taste?)

New Nail Polish

Sunday, July 17th, 2011

I finally broke down and ordered a Flakie Polish from eBay – Nubar 2010. The seller, MissSaigon98, accidentally sent two bottles and very graciously let me keep both.  At first, I considered giving away the extra bottle… but after wearing it, I decided to keep it forever! Ahh I love this polish!!

Wow. Those are some serious cuticles.

In this photo I’ve got on China Glaze Shower Together with four coats of Nubar 2010, over Orly Bonder Base Coat and topped with Seche Vite (best top coat ever, hands down!)

You really can’t go wrong with this polish (or this seller!!) – $5 + only $2.40 for shipping?? Awesome!!

Lightning Bolt Headband

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

I love wearing things in my hair. And I love felt and sequins. Yeah! Enter the lightning headband!

Check out that ugly look on my face! But it’s dang hard to get a good pic of the side of your head!

Supplies needed:

  • Scrap Paper
  • Scissors
  • Felt
  • Needle and thread
  • Sequin Trim
  • Hot Glue
  • 1/2″ Elastic

1.  Sketch a lightning-like shape on paper, and use it to cut a piece of felt. I used stiff glitter felt.

2. Start stitching the sequins around the edge of your bolt. Use a running stitch (Down through first sequin hole, through the felt, up through the felt again, and through the next sequin hole. Does that make sense?).

Stitch all the way down one side of the lightning.   I chose to sew it rather than use hot glue because trying to hot glue small things always ends up in a stringy mess for me.

3.  Leave a tail with five or six sequins at the end. Take the extra sequins off so the thread is loose.  Fold the loose thread to the back and stitch it into place. It’ll be hidden later.

Stitch sequins to the other side of the bolt. The reason I did it in two parts is that it’s hard to get a sharp pivot with the sequins at the tip of the lightning bolt.

4. Make sure your loose sequin thread ends are tucked in, and lay out the whole lightning bolt on a new piece of felt. Hot glue it down, then trim around it.  The messy side is now effectively covered with a fresh piece of felt.

5.  Measure out a piece of elastic for your head and sew the ends together (zigzag over the raw edge), or use a store bought elastic headband.  Make two short “tubes” around the headband using strips of felt and hot glue. The trick is that the tubes can still slide along the headband. Now hot glue .

6. Wear in your hair and be awesome!

Bokeh Face Cosmetics

Monday, March 21st, 2011

Well hello there!

I want to apologize for being absent as of late (that is, if anyone still reads this blog!)  I was debating whether or not to continue with it, as another project has taken up quite a large enormous part of my time.

In January, I started an independent mineral makeup company called Bokeh Face Cosmetics.  Bokeh, as I’m sure you are aware, is a fancy photography term for those lovely blips of light you see in an unfocused part of a photo. <3 <3 <3

If you’ve read anything on my blog, you know that I love to MAKE things.  Anything, really.  And you might not know that I love makeup.  It’s like a craft project every morning!  Painting on your face!!  And I really, REALLY love colors.  Annnnnd I’m broke and couldn’t afford all of the Bare Minerals eyeshadows that I wanted ($13 a pop!  Really??)  So when I found out that I could MAKE MY OWN MAKEUP??!??  OMG I am so there.

Turns out it has become a passion of mine.  Every day I play with sparkley dust.  It’s teh awesome!

Anywho, I’ve decided to keep updating this as a personal blog, but I’m also blogging about makeup at www.bokehface.blogspot.com.  You can also visit my Art Fire shop at http://www.bokehface.com, and please please please stop by my facebook fan page and “like” us!  I also tweet quite often:  @BokehFace.

Everything is micro-formulated (meaning I formulate everything myself in small batches) using  ingredients approved by the FDA for cosmetic use.  It’s prepared in a clean, sanitary environment and I will do custom requests and answer any/all questions you have about what’s in it and how I make it :)

I hope you take some time to check it out, since it has been my baby for quite some time now!
