Crafties!

Hello dolls!

I want to introduce you to a new feature on this blog that I’m going to call “DIY Champion”

Dismount Creative has a tutorial for an amazing faceted necklace and earring set made from polymer clay. I gave it a shot, but I couldn’t get clean, sharp facets on the clay (even after some time in the freezer!) I even tried to sand them down after baking, but unfortunately, it… didn’t work:

For my second try, I actually cut straight from a brand new block of clay. This time, sheer awesomeness!

Instead of using glitter in it, I dusted them with two colors of gold mica. It is damn hard to get a good picture of sparkley things, let me tell you. Plus, it’s been cloudy for like, a year now, and I couldn’t freaking get a good picture.

Here they are, all pretty and strung up. I’ll have to get some earring posts tomorrow and glue them on. All in all, I’m pretty happy with them. I might make about a hundred more. There’s something deeply satisfying about slicing off clean layers.

Are you going to make this? Tell me about it!

Tiny purse

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

I caught the bag-making bug again today. I went down to JoAnn’s with a birthday gift card and came home with some pretty new fabrics. I started with a tiny coin purse. I want to attach it to my keychain but I fear it will become ridiculously dirty.
Please excuse the poor lighting in my basement. I didn’t finish this till about 9.

I almost forgot this one, which I finished a few weeks ago. It’s a 3-drop peyote bracelet – I purchased the pattern from etsy seller time2cre8. Here is the link to the pattern; she has about of really beautiful jewelry. I used Toho Treasure beads which seem very similar to Delicas, but I can’t get them at Joann or Michael’s anymore. They were all clearanced out!!

Blogging will hopefully happen more frequently now

Hey all. I’m writing this from my new iPhone 4! I’m hoping this will equal more blog posts.
I’ve been dabbling in beadwork since my arm got bad. it’s definitely better now, but I’m trying to expand my crafting horizons to avoid any repetitive movement related issues. Here is my latest completed project – a herringbone bracelet made from Delicas and Czech fire-polished beads:
